Hangovers are incredibly uncomfortable. After a night of drinking, your body becomes dehydrated, which causes your blood vessels to constrict, resulting in headaches and other aches and pains. Meanwhile, your stomach lining has become irritated, causing acid reflux, making you feel nauseous and reluctant to eat or drink.
There’s no singular way to prevent a hangover or a hangover treatment that is one size fits all. However, with some careful planning and foresight, you can reduce the severity of your hangover and get more effective hangover treatment.
It can be hard to relax when you know you have a hangover waiting for you the next morning. Here are some tips that will help you prevent or lessen your hangover.
One of the most well known hangover prevention techniques is to drink water or to match each alcoholic drink you consume with 8 oz of water. Luckily, there’s some truth to this method. A night of drinking can leave you dehydrated, causing headaches and other hangover symptoms. While the water to alcohol ratio won’t completely prevent a hangover, it will make a difference.
Maintain Your Blood Sugar
Alcohol hits your body harder on an empty stomach. Eating throughout the day and starting your night with a meal will up your alcohol tolerance. Essentially, maintaining your blood sugar stops the alcohol from wreaking unchecked havoc on your body. Snacking along with your drinking can also be helpful.
Shots tend to be a favorite among club goers because they work fast. While you may be tipsy sooner, the high concentration of alcohol does more damage than sipping a beer or mixed drink over the course of an hour does. If you really prefer shots, try sticking to clear liquor over brown.
Replenish Your Electrolytes
Even when you drink plenty of water, you can still wake up with an intense hangover. The issue isn’t dehydration, but your balance of electrolytes. Every time you use the restroom, you lose electrolytes. Drinking water with your alcohol helps rehydrate you, but it doesn’t restore your electrolyte balance. Before you turn in, try to drink some sort of sports drink and replenish your lost electrolytes.
Prep Your Sleep Space
A hangover can be made worse by poor sleep. Unfortunately, alcohol inherently makes it more difficult to attain healthy REM sleep during the night. Before you go out, try and prepare your sleep space ahead of time. This could be having a full bottle of water on your bedside table or already having your pajamas out. A sleep mask can also be effective in blocking out unwanted distractions.
Sometimes, you simply can’t avoid a hangover. All the right precautions and steps may have lessened what could have been a monster hangover, but that’s little comfort when you wake up with a throbbing headache and dry mouth. A fast and effective form of hangover treatment is IV therapy.
IV therapy is an effective hangover treatment because of how quickly it rehydrates you. Because the hangover treatment is intravenous, your body can immediately start distributing electrolyte balanced fluid wherever your body needs it. When you drink water, your body has to perform the extra step of absorption before it can be effectively used.
Bring in the Electrolytes
Now that your body has all the hydration it needs, it’s time to replenish your electrolytes. Our hangover treatment utilizes a mixture of electrolytes like sodium, calcium, potassium, and chlorid to restock your body’s store of electrolytes. These salts help your body use hydration and store hydration effectively.
The Hydration Room includes a non-narcotic pain killer in our hangover treatment. While your body is busy allocating water resources, the pain killer helps to dull your headache. This gives your body a chance to finish hydrating itself without having to wait with a dehydration headache. By the time the painkiller wears off, your headache should be greatly if not completely reduced.
No More Nausea
One of the worst symptoms of a hangover is nausea. When a primary method of treating a hangover is getting food and water into your system, nausea and vomiting makes this process unpleasant or virtually impossible. Our hangover treatment includes an anti-nausea that will let you eat and drink without worrying about keeping it down.
